born 1910 in Riga, died 1971 in Berlin. Fine art and graphic studies at University of Arts in Berlin. Before 1939 and after 1947 graphic designer in Berlin. Marriage with the German-Baltic Edith Alix von Baer; three children Brigitta, Uliane (both painters) and Bernhard (inner architect). 1939 draft call as ambulance driver. 1943 – 1947 captivity as a prisoner of war. 1949 called to University of Arts Berlin by Karl Hofer, where he was appointed professor. Taught elementary drawing modelled by nature in the applied and free section. Worked as freelance artist in addition.

Object and abstraction: Much higher than normal in the Expressionism of his time, is the level of tension which Bernhard Wilhelm Borchert, an excessive observer of nature, shows in his paintings and drawings towards a radical und at the same time absolutely coherent reduction to the essence.
